I attended a fun New Years' get-together tonight. Just a low key evening with friends I feel entirely comfy with. And this gaggle of girlfriends are Very Funny.
Here's the pre-evening series of emails... I like how it quickly degenerated:
Maewitch: Ok, so key question - are we doing casual or fancy dress?
Me: There will likely be slacks involved with my ensemble, because I get cold
too easily. But I'll jazzy the rest up. So I'm ready for anything. As for Fernando, you never know which way the wind is blowing... whhoooosh....
Midnightstreet: I'm dressing up. I will be the only one.
Mae: I'll do semi-dressy, Midnight. I'll get the Boy to wear a nice shirt.
Yolgies: I'm wearing sweatpants.
PR: Screw it, I'm not even going to wear pants!
Happy New Year to you all! :-) Everyone seemed to have a sick or dying cat this year, so I'm declaring 2011 the Year of the Healthy & Living cat!

Haley and the Case of the Returning Appetite
We got back from our New Year's party, and immediately heard the welcome noise of Haley wanting to be let out of her room. (We lock the cats up separately.) This is usually a sign that she wants to be fed, and is done with the Hiding and Sleeping phase. She ran out, and ate her supper, and is acting normal. So I'm not going to give her the pain med, cause she doesn't appear to be in pain and the side effects are too crappy.
And so, hopefully, we return to our regularly scheduled cat life. Thank-you for everyone's concern and well wishes. :-)

Haley and the Case of the Forced Pills
Haley's not eating today, but I'm not too worried. I think she has an appetite, but still isn't going to the bathroom normally, so she's holding off. Unfortunately that means in about 5 minutes she's going to be forcefed some pills.
I didn't give her a painkiller at 5 AM, so the crazy eyes went away and she's just napping normally all day. She doesn't look to be in pain--she's not hunched over like Pain Cats get, but was even in her twisty pretzel pose. I might hold off giving her pain med, in case it's constipating her.
So we're going out to Maewitch's for New Years' as planned.

Haley and the Case of the Suspicious Room
It's hard to concentrate on anything else with a pet is sick. Haley's acting weird, but I think it's the Tramadol pain killer--the tech warned me to give it less often if she acts kooky. One of the rare-er side effects is hallucinating, and I actually wonder if she is. Instead of sleeping, she's looking around the living room as though it's acting Very Suspiciously. I turned down the lights and the TV volume, to encourage her to rest, but she just keeps accusing the room of Weirdness.
She turned down a potato chip earlier, which worried me. But just now she ate a hearty amount of Snappy Toms, so I'm feeling a little better. But I don't know how much sleep I'll get tonight. Will continue to rely on light reading (Wodehouse) and light TV (Blackadder, Dr Katz, Poirot) to keep me occupied in my vigil.

"You're allll suspect!"
She'sa home!
Haley's fever finally went down, and all her tests were clear. They said she still wasn't eating, but suspected it was because she was "terrified" and didn't want to go back in the hospital cage. Poor Haleys. So I ran down to pick her up!
The tech put her in her cage before bringing her out. She was HISS HISS HISS! Then I called her name:
Haaaaaleeeeeey
She turned around and came up to the bars. I let her sniff my fingers, and all was well.
I thought maybe when she came home she'd be spitting mad, but not at all. Other than the loss of dignity, she seems fine and now she just feasted on Snappytoms and medicine. Now she's furiously licking the Bad Hospital Smell off her fur.

No Haley Update
The longer it takes them to call, the more I worry. At this point I think they've killed her and are drawing lots to see who has to call me.
