Navel Gazing: The Books That Changed My Life - Connie

Doomsday Book - Connie Willis

I wanted to read some sci fi, and picked this up only because the author had won lots of awards. I can remember sitting on the 203 bus, immediately sucked into the first couple pages. And then I remember sitting on the sofa, listening to Gordon Lightfoot, and getting weepy over the ending of the book.

There are many reasons to love this book, and you certainly don't need to be a spiritual person to love it (after all, it won sci fi awards) -- but there is definitely a God-the-father-and-Christ-the-son parallel between the two main characters, which to me lent an extra layer of poignancy and meaning to the dénouement. --> The idea that the only way we really experience God is through the ways we compassionately connect with each other.

lolbad

I love lolcats but... how did someone get a picture like this, other than throwing their cat onto the snowy roof and letting it fall, in order to take the photo?

my corner

I sent in a picture of my writing corner for Nanowrimo's "Where I write" series. Here I am!
