Inspired by Glee, I have a question for you -- what one song expresses how you're feeling lately?
For me it's "Flashdance... What a Feelin'". No, I'm not crying in a steel-filled world; but I'm having trouble staying on top of my writing, and I worry that I don't have the drive needed to at least give me a shot at winning the publishing lottery.
The character Rachel on Glee is practically my hero, because it really is people with that sort of single-mindedness who get places, at least when it comes to art. In the real world, I have SO much admiration for my friend Wai-Yant who I've watched slowly build up a ceramics business over the years--she has talent, but she also works hard.
So? What song is YOU right now?

Picture Time
I had to make room on my computer so I went through the slides my dad had made into photos and got rid of the pictures of airplanes and people I don't know. Here are some random pics...

| I had to keep this pic of San Francisco my dad took. To remind me that I'll have to get in shape beFORE I go to SF!! |

Scenes from a marriage - You're weird Lefty
Scene: Fernando has spent the night at my cat sitting stint. On the bus going home he brings up how mad our own cats will be at being fed so late.
Mabel - Haley's probably escaped through the window by now and she's holding people up for cat food money. She'll be in a shoot out with the cops by the time you arrive. 'You dirty cops! You'll never take me!'
Fernando - I'm glad to be going home to my kitties.
M - What, my kitties [the ones I was sitting] aren't good enough for you?
F - They're ok, but a bit weird, Lefty.
M - I always eat kitty sandwiches.
F - Not on my watch.
M - ... ... Good job. High five.*
* This is the first time in 15 years he's carried the Shreddies Routine almost to completion.

Scenes from a family - The Shreddies Routine
There used to be a Shreddies commercial that my brother, step-mother and I riffed on with each other. Our step-mommy is francophone, so she always had a bit of trouble with it. The trick with this routine is that if you start it, you're stuck with most of the lines. So you didn't say "You're weird, Lefty" in our house, unless you intended to back it up. Unfortunately saying "You're weird Lefty" was one of step-mommy's favourite lines.
The commercial went like this:
Kids coming home from school, to friends' house. Eating Shreddies. Lefty is making a Shreddies sandwich. His companions express disgust.
Kid whose house it is: You're weird Lefty.
Lefty: I always eat Shreddies sandwiches.
Kid: Not in MY house.
At the end you see all the friends leaving the house.
Kid: And don't slam--
BANG!
--the door.
You have to say "the door" in a particular, hang-dog, pouty manner. Step-mommy did like saying that part.

Scenes from a marriage - Star Cats
Scene: Living room, in darkness, about to start Return of the Jedi. Husband points to evil cat Haley, lurking in the shadows.
Fernando - Look at Darth Vader over there, in the dark.
Mabel - She's not Darth Vader, there's no good in her. ...She's Palpatine.
