Still a great video. Considering it was made in the 80s, that's saying a lot.

And my favourite Paul Simon song. The first time Trevor Payne played this for us in Cegep I just about fell out of my chair. The drums! The horns! On a good stereo it comes across like a Phil Spector Wall of Sound.

I love both of those songs. I never really understood the "Call Me Al" video. I was a little kid when it came out, and I didn't really pick up on Paul Simon acting all schlubby then. I thought it was cute then--and still do. But the '80's were the decade of, say, the "Thriller" video! Which made that decade sort of a golden era of the music video, in spite of all the silly videos that also came out then (like, say, "Total Eclipse of the Heart"). But what do I know... Music vids aren't really my thing.
And I think my favorite Paul Simon song after Simon and Garfunkel is probably "Diamonds on the Soles of Her Shoes."
Diamonds is lovely.
I think the smart thing about the video is they did something funny and inexpensive (unless Chevy charged big bucks) so it lasts. Instead of something flashy but without good technology, like Total Eclipse, which therefore didn't last.
Though Total Eclipse has high entertainment value, esp if you see the "literal lyrics" version.
I'd never heard that second song before. Love it - but of course especially the percussion. And I enjoyed the Chevy Chase version - especially at the end when Paul Simon almost begins laughing when he gets the trumpet in the face...

I loved the Paul Simon almost-laugh as well. He's doing such a great job of staying straight faced, which must be SO hard when you're up against Chevy Chase. And then for one second he breaks character.
